New Animals at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for 2013? Six Flags CEO Jim Reid Anderson Comments on the Topic!

Welcome to Theme Park Overload! Today we did a little investigating on Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for the 2013 season! If you haven't previously heard, SFDK announced a dolphin-themed acrobatic show titled Cirque Dreams Splashtastic for 2013. (You can check out that article, along with all other Six Flags 2013 announcements, here) Read the official announcement statement from the park below:

"This new aquatic production features the park’s popular marine mammals along with the internationally renowned company of acrobats, aerialists and astounding Cirque Dreams acts that will amaze in the air, over water and throughout the Dolphin Harbor Theater."

Dolphin Harbor Theater? If you've been following SFDK lately, you would know that the park's main animal attraction, Shouka the Killer Whale, was sent to Sea World San Diego last month. (You can also read that article here) The whale had its own stadium for its performances, titled "Shouka Stadium". The stadium was quickly changed to "Pacific Stadium" just weeks before Shouka's departure. Why wouldn't they put the new show in the park's largest stadium? Would Six Flags really let a huge stadium go dormant for 2013 and beyond? I don't think so.

Last week, along with Six Flags's 2013 announcements, I had the opportunity of asking the company's CEO Jim Reid Anderson about the future of Pacific Stadium through a Conference Call. When questioned, his response was quite interesting:

"We are planning to renovate the location, we'll open it next year. The stadium is going to be closed for the remainder of the season, we're going to open it in 2013, we'll have some renovations and in time we'll reveal what we're going to do."

I went on to specifically ask if we'll see any "animal additions" in 2013. He eagerly responded:

"That's going to be a secret. We've announced the show that Al (Al Weber Jr, Six Flags COO) described, "Splashtastic", and obviously that will involve animals, and we've got a huge number of animal folks there and at Great Adventure (Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey)"

Obviously, Mr. Anderson wasn't ready to release anything yet, but I'm sure we'll see an announcement from the park sometime in the near future. My bet's on another new Animal Show, and a headliner too! That's all for now from Theme Park Overload!
